Special Issue Information

Dear Colleague,

In 2015, the European Commission introduced the concept of Industry 5.0 which focuses on the interaction of humans with machines. Industry 5.0 envisions beyond industry 4.0 and emphasizes the role of innovation and research as vital factors in transition process towards human-centric, sustainable and resilient businesses. The fifth industrial revolution shifts focus from shareholders towards stakeholders with benefits for all. Industry 5.0 concerns about planetary boundaries, employee’s wellbeing in parallel with value-creation through disruptive technologies and financial performance. This Special Issue, entitled “Industry 5.0: Leadership, Business Strategy and Innovation Management,” will present the latest trends in industrial revolution, sustainability, and innovation management and discuss the present advances and challenges in academia and business world. With this aim in mind, we are seeking innovative research on perception, decision making, task planning, and control. Contrary to industry 4.0, the fifth industrial revolution consolidates human-centricity, sustainability and resilience as determining factors of creativity fostered by disruptive technologies. The European Commission trusts that industry 5.0 drives inclusive workplace, promote resilient supply chain practices and sustainable business activities. Academicians and practitioners also relate industry 5.0 with sustainable social welfare.

Extent literature offers conceptual frameworks and empirical evidence about sustainability, human-centricity and resilience. Yet, these topics have been studied individually or in a pairwise combination such as efficiency and resilience, digital technology and sustainable development, sustainable performance and resilience. But the fifth industrial revolutions offers a unique context by consolidating human-centricity, sustainability and resilience.

It is true that a lot fo research has been already conducted about technological aspects of industry 4.0 and 5.0. Though, their profound understanding and conceptualization across business, organization and management arena is still under-developed.
